In Italy, Christmas is celebrated with much joy. The birth of the Christ Child was first celebrated in Italy in about 300 A.D. Today the center of the celebration is the Nativity. Throughout Italy, public buildings, homes and churches display the scene of the birth of Christ. Angels are part of the scenes, and are among the favorite of the figures. The Italian Angel lifts her trumpet to her lips and blows with all her might to announce to the world the Good News, the Christ Child is born! Her graceful hand is held over her heart and she feels it pounding with joy at this most glorious event. Alleluia! Alleluia! The Christ Child is born! Let the whole world know and rejoice over the happenings in a stable in Bethlehem. She blows her trumpet over the hills, over the cities and towns, into the sleeping valleys and towards the stars in heaven so that even they, twinkling in their diamond splendor, may rejoice!
